My PR is 0 so I started doing some investigation. My site has been active for a few years now in a popular niche and has many backlinks from shareware sites and discussion boards. Many of these are high PR sites such as Tucows, CompUSA, TigerDirect, etc. I get consistent organic traffic. There are no junk links, these were all hand submitted. When I look at the Google SERP I have pages and pages of links, yet when I use the Google "link:www.yourdomain.com" query it returns 10 total results. 10! What the??? How can this be? Yahoo shows 364! So the obvious question is....did I piss off Google? My links are all legit, very one of them. I do not have dupe domains with the same content. I never have engaged in SEO trickery. So what the hell. I can't understand why they're killing my PR. Meanwhile, I keep feeding Adwords because I have no choice. Any idea why the big discrepancy, and why they are not counting/considering all of these valid backlinks?
I think you will need alot more quality backlinks to boost your PR on the next update. Whats your URL? Everyone will just be guessing without that.
Thanks, but I asked a specific question. Why is Google not including almost 400 existing backlinks from quality sites? How can Google show 10 backlinks and Yahoo 384? These are not new. Some of these links are 2 years old.
Google only shows a small sample of the backlinks to your site... it's the same for all sites. Check Google Webmaster Tools to see more of your backlinks, or use Yahoo SiteExplorer.
Its a normal thing that google didn't show all the backlinks of your website because of security purposes, don't be bother when you saw a few backlinks of your site in fact you are more fotunate of having 10. Sometimes google didn't show any backlinks to other sites.
Google will only shows part of the links when you use link:domain.com. I think you can have more details from the google webmaster tools. And yes yahoo will show nearly all backlinks. I have site which has more than 13000 backlinks shown in yahoo site explorer. But it only returns about 100 or so when I use link:xxxxxxxx.com in G.
