i know some may just jump on me and kill me :)

but i never minded about PR - actualy i never knew until few weeks ago.
quality traffic alone mattered all the past years.

    BUT

now i had a look during the past weeks and specially days - since so many of you think write or worry about links so much.

here 2 facts from these days:
    -----------------------------------
    example site 1:
    *************
    Google PR 7/10
Pages linking to your site: 660 pages ( if you go for 3 full months or more through all worldwide national directory and enter any relevant topic or subtopic of your site you may get 2 or more entry per directory and get easily that number if links make you that mcuhc happy ..)

    example site 2
    *************
about two days ago another site:
Google PR 5 and only 8 back links !!!

it surely is but the quality of links that counts ..

focusing on better quality, more quality content, more quality products meeting the need and demand of public will drive traffic and also get links by OTHERS palcing a link to your page IF they are happy and satisfied with your site/product/service

some people may start to actually sell links just because others have a link/PR phobia :)

and IF ever you need some quality links and global popularity ...
    - there are some 100 or so directories in variosu countries with PR 6-8 or so worldwide and a link has at least the purpose of bringing directly additinal NEW customers from NEW geographical locations otherwise never touched ... depending on your products or services worthwhile to consider.

if on the OTHER side of the story
you create a popular site like shawn with 8000+ growing customers - all smiling and all happy - then all have a link or two on their site you you have your 10'000 or so links ..

and if you continue a lifetime accumulating nothing but smiling happy customers

by working better and harder - then you get a 6 digit # :)

Yep, I do NOT worry about page rank, it looks after itself I say. Fact is that you need to cover all the bases, you need to have all the basicscovered, content tags etc, and you need to have incoming links as well.

I have lots of sites bringing in plenty of business, with average PR values

    Hans,

I've the same very relaxed attitude. It's a nice to have and if a site has good relevant content it did and still does come by itself.
If one needs it for a client one can always simply buy or advertice on a PR8/9 site.

I now may get some flack for this, but I find Alexa incredibly helpfull.
It's not doing much but it's such a nice seductive graph and an incedible easy thing to show to potential clients and to show that ASP's (alternative supplier pages) are left behind.

Again content does and will always win.

    yes i agree

another example i found just these minutes. a yahoo user has a "cool-link" to a website ( this one has 3 cool links ) in his pubolic available Yahoo profile ( a german prfile @ yahoo and a quick check of the PR of that yahoo subdomain shows:

    http://de.profiles.yahoo.com
Your site is ranked as 9/10 !

these are links the no money can buy - they can be earned by quality of content only and a gift from happy customers.

another proof of how much happy customers can uplift your PR ! there is but one single possibility to do so - quality !

and there are millions of potential people who can make such cool links to YOU if they are happy with what you offer.
