Google PR passing question.

Q: If I had a website which used ip geolocation to redirect visitors to country specific subdomains and I was able to get a high PR link to the www address, would the PR be passed to the subdomains?

 

An even better question is would the domain and subdomain be linked to each other?

 

Ermm... no, I don't think so.

The domain redirects to the appropriate subdomain depending on ip location.

 

Tricky one.
I always thaough subs were treated as completly separate domain names for G, which would mean no.
Each sub would require it's own linking profile, idealy from the targeted country and in their own language.

Thats was my gut feeling on this, but I wanted to throw it out there to see what others thought.

if u make URL link from main domin to sub domain, goole will update PR of sub domain at the time of (april) next google update

 

see this is what i understand from your question.. you have one main site which is having PR, now u have some sub domain too. now you have redirect your main site to that sub domain right?
in this case your pr will be passed...

The site was originally set up with no subdomains and using the www prefix. It gained PR3.

It was then split into 10 or so country specific subdomains and visitors were redirected by a 301 redirect to the appropriate subdomain.

Some of the subdomains have PR0, some PR2 and one PR3.

I have been developing incoming links to specific subdomains in order to improve SERPS, but I was wondering if I had an opportunity of a particularly good quality link would it be best to point it at the www domain or one of the subdomains?? - thats really my problem.

I wouldn't want to waste any time pointing links to the www domain if there was no benefit.

EDIT: I just thought; would there be any difference if incoming links pointed to the domain without any prefix?? eg http:/domain.com

 

IMO PR will pass to those domains - you you also have direct links to sub-domains from the main page.

You must also have a proper site on the main domain- as if you don't have it, Google will treat it a doorway site and deprive you all the juice. Just my 2 paisa
