hi im wondering how many links it takes for a sites pr value to change has anybody got any idea? i understand that it depends on the other sites pr that displays your link but i would like to know on average the amount of links thanks
I saw a chart around somewhere, but it's something like 1000 PR 1 links to get a PR 5 - but you can also get a PR 5 with only 1 good PR 6 link. So, the higher the PR the better linking to you when it comes to that. Remember though, PR doesn't get you traffic or help in the serps unless those incoming links have good anchor text for your search terms and are from relevant websites.
so if i submit to directories am i better to vary what i put as my description or to go for i solid description all the time? and do none specific directories that have general catagories, are they not classed as similar sites (i.e is their link value not as good as a similar sites link)? if you know what i mean, I cant think how to word it better! cheers
Pretty sure as long as the link the page is coming from is relevant (as in the correct category) then the link will be relevant. For example if you submit to a directory category for hosting, then the page title is for hosting and all the links on the page have descriptions about hosting. Directories are the best way to get incoming relevant links to a new website. The anchor text is what's important for your links (Link Title). That's what gives you weight in the google search results (serps). The more links to your website with the anchor your using, the higher up you'll rank for that search term. Now, with that said, you do want to vary your link anchors some - all links coming with the same anchor will look fishy and you may get penalized. Besides, you don't want all your search results relying on one search term anyways.
Hello, I remember when I was asking the exact same thing and no one could give me an answer. That was two years ago. I will give you one now, but we have to make a few assumptions before the math can be figured. First, let's assume all the links are coming from pages which contains 50 links, (to me, that means internal and external links). This is important because the PR passed is split evenly between all links leaving a page. To attain a PR5, you would need 16,803 links from PR1 pages. To attain a PR5, you would need 3,055 links from PR2 pages. To attain a PR5, you would need 555 links from PR3 pages. To attain a PR5, you would need 101 links from PR4 pages. To attain a PR5, you would need 18 links from PR5 pages. To attain a PR6, you would need 92,414 links from PR1 pages. To attain a PR6, you would need 16,803 links from PR2 pages. To attain a PR6, you would need 3,055 links from PR3 pages. To attain a PR6, you would need 555 links from PR4 pages. To attain a PR6, you would need 101 links from PR5 pages. To attain a PR6, you would need 18 links from PR6 pages. Code (markup): These numbers are based on a logarithmic scale of 5.5 and 85% of the median PR being passed. These values are extreme approximations though. Consider that a toolbar PR1 could be anything from 1.0 to 1.9. On the log of 5.5, that would be from 6 to 30 and in the above examples, we are using median value which is 15. So, in reality, you could have links from tool-bar-PR1 pages that are all passing a logrithmic PR6 or are all passing a logrimthmic PR30, or any of combinations therein, we just don't know. Got a headache yet? There is a chart here reprinted with permission of it's author Bob Wakfer and there is a link on that page to his original chart and article. http://megalinkexchange.com/google/how_many_backlinks_is_enough.html Have fun, Bompa
