I was bored senseless. In Google search, I typed in pi$$, you know, the real word. YIKES!!!! The ads on the right hand side. I couldn't believe it. So, I tried another word. DOUBLE YIKES!!! Then another. Holy cow. If you can think of it, Google now has an ad for it. WHEN DID THIS CHANGE? I always thought that Google said "No Porn ads". Not any more. Check it out. Use any word. EDIT: I just did some digging into AdWords TOS. http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guidelines.cs&topic=9271&subtopic=9279 Apparently, anything goes, except underage stuff. WOW. Where have I been? Maybe this isn't new, and I have been under a rock. I am surprised. How does this relate to AdSense? https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=48182 Under Google AdSense Program Policies, it says - Sites displaying Google ads may not include: * Violent content, racial intolerance, or advocacy against any individual, group, or organization * Pornography, adult, or mature content SUMMARY: As an advertiser, you can create porn ads (but only for Google search). As a publisher, you cannot display porn ads. So, Google serves AdWords porn ads, but you can't. End of story. I didn't realize this distinction. Interesting. . .
Wow. I really have been under a rock. I just didn't know. There are several old threads here on DP that cover the subject in detail. I'm over it. . .
They've always done that on search - why not? If it's a legal business selling what they used to call "marital aids" - as long as the ads only show up when you've actually searched for it, that's what you expect to see. Content/adsense ads are different because people don't actually search for the keywords that trigger them.
I have seen a few sites that are pornish in nature that I've blocked in Adsense. Recently there seemed to be a spate of gay sites that bid on all types of kewords it seems. I do wonder how many in DP clicked on the ad shown in DP - Girls Gone Wild ad - slightly NSFW a while back.
