Google is to launch a service that would enable users to access their personal computer from any internet connection, according to industry reports. I really find it hard to believe that this will kill off the desktop computer because: 1. Not every file people store, they want uploaded onto a google server(or any server for that matter). and 2. Internet speeds, bandwidth, space etc etc, are a little worrying for a lot of people and for google.
Even I think not many people will choose to discard desktop computer since it is the basic human nature to keep his things under his own control and custody... People would be apprehensive in keeping their data and information on some remote location. Regards, RightMan
I don't think it's for remote access to an entire pc, I think it's more for remote access to files that you need on the go. You still need a pc with good computing power just to run the OS and process applications.
Currently, no remote storages can be replace the good old SATA 1.5 - 3 GB/s and the convenience of pull off the ethernet/cable wires from the modem, when needed. Also, the ability of taking out the harddrive and smash 'em then melt 'em to destroy beyond recovery, if required.
I'd bet on Security+speed. No chance to upload my own data, especially important such on ANY server... be it google's, which actually doesn't comfort me a single bit!
