Hi guys, I've heard that Google places importance, on geographical location for search results....E.g. If I do a worldwide search, and my site is based in the US....Even though I am targeting the UK market....The first sites to appear in a worldwide search done in the UK will be UK sites then US sites...Even though the search is global....Is this true? Does Google place importance on location?
Yes and no, really if your hosting company is based in a specific region with it's own data center it will naturally appear better in that DC's search results. ccTLD (country code top level domains) can actually help increase the likely hood of your site ranking well for that specific country's results. Now, common sense would say that in order to have the most relevant results some type of geographical factors must come into play, and this is noticeable in search results. Howerver, most of the factors people claim are silly and un-proveable.
