Can a google places account rank in other cities where the business address is not located?

    If so, how many cities?

Or do you have to create a new business listing per city with a new address in order to rank in that city?

If you add your local Google ads then it will be added in local area only. If you add it in mumbai then this will be added in Mumbai only.

Per city Like lets say we live in beverly hills but want to target los angeles. Do we need to have a los angeles address in order to rank for keywords in google local?

Just think about it: would it make sense to you if you googled "restaurant in los angeles" and suddenly your beverly hills restaurant pops up? Would that be relevant to your search? Do people look for a beverly hills restaurant if they google for restaurants in LA? No.

However, I might just have misunderstood you and appologize if that was the case.

I am talking about a business that actually visits residential homes to service in, example: cleaning services, maids, etc.

Yes, you are right, but Google places is mainly for local business so if you are targeting any area then it would give you good benefit.

You dont need to have that, google engine would already sort the query once the search is made, on the location. Like in most search engine it will give the possible result on the most nearer answer.

In order for your place to rank high on Google Places you must have a good amount of backlinks and some page rank if you plan on pushing your competitors off the map.

No offense but no one has answered his question. Yes you will need a local address in that particular city to rank in Google Places for that specific area. We have many clients that are in this situation, that either service a large area or simply want to target multiple key cities. Every Google Places listing requires a local address and phone. There are easy ways to get both. If you have multiple Google Places listings in a certain geographical area set up correctly you will dominate the entire service area that you are trying to target.

Side Note: If you are in a very rural area, then often times you can rank for other cities beyond your own. However, this will change as soon as competition in that area increases and you will be back to the area that your address is located.
