Google Personalized Search - the switchover recently

Ok, so was talking with a friend of mine, Dazzlin Donna, about the new changes having to do with Google and the Personalized Results. She originally posted this at SEO Refugee, but I would like to get some DP feedback too if we could. Here is the op:

Any thoughts or observations on this? Is anyone here signed up for Search History, and stays logged into Google for the most part, that has noticed any personalization?

    Thanks.

Your assumption is obviously true: only after you sign up for personalised search will they start collecting your search history - and use that to give you more relevant search results (that's the claim anyway) in future. This not only builds up slowly, but it is also likely to work best for themes you look up often.

What do you mean by "sign up for personalized search" though? There is no option to do that per se. Here's what I am signed up for now:

    My services - Edit
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      AdSense
      AdWords
      Alerts - Manage Help
      Co-op - My Search Engines
      Groups - Manage subscriptions
      orkut - Settings
      Personalized Homepage - Add content
      Webmaster Tools

    Code (markup):
Nothing about "personalized search", either there or in what I could still sign up for.

This is the biggest change in the last 3 years. Anyone that signs up for Google services now is basically automatically enrolled in Personlized search. If you had an account before you will have to turn this option on.

I have seen many examples of people using personlized search getting different results then regular results. Search Google Personlized Search and read more.

    Hi there

You are automatically being tracked by the PS mechanisms if you have a Google account and are logged in .... it is ON by default, U have to turn it off.

As for the rest - the boat is still at SEA for me... though Matt Cutts is a fan of Personalized Search - from his keynote at SES London

I am researching and writing about Personalized Search with my M8 the Mad Hat - we should start posting this week.

I have 3 people already runing on the system for a few weeks and will have some data to play with ( we see how if grows to know us every few days).... so far..it's been kinda funny...

If you are interested, drop me a line and I shall keep U updated with what we're up to....

In the end, if your a professional SEO - U'd better start plugging PSO (personalized search optimization) and LSO (local search optimization) into the lexicon.. it ain't going away.
