I have a 2 month old website that I started mid July. It was ranking well (2nd or 3rd page) for 3 or 4 terms. Also, it was ranking well (1st or 2nd page) - for my individual state pages (widgets: alabama , widgets: arizona, widgets: California etc...) I would get the majority of my traffic when someone would type in "widgets in arizona" or "widgets in california" etc - My competitors use the same state by state method to advertise in this niche. Today I check my ranks and my site has dropped off the map on all keywords in google and all keywords by state in google. - I used no blackhat seo that I know of. - Besides maybe 20 blog comments in 2 months, I wrote about 10 articles with anchor text for my keywords and submitted to sites like ezine and goarticles and that is all the backlinks I have. - I searched my site's name on google and it is still 1st for my name. I checked and all pages are still indexed on google - I actually have more content on my site than most all my competition in this particular niche - This has happened before on another site that was 1 1/2 month's old (same niche market) - I scrapped the site when it happened before Based on the info above does it look like my site got penalized by google or it it just the "Honeymoon Effect" for new sites?
as long as your site are still indexed its normal.. its just so happen that there are also other site that rank.. i suggest to try other link building techniques.. it helps..
From our experience, your rank could move up and down because your competitors might add some more text or better positioning or links etc
Many people say that sites get an initial boost for the first month or so (ranking high for your desired keywords) then it drops to see if you still care about your site and after a few months it will slowly come back to the top. Happened to me a lot, I was ranking in top 5 SERPs or so for a keyword for 1 month then it dropped, but I still haven't got back to the top 10 SERPs or so (after a year).
Hi! Yes,this is the case of honeymoon... Seoshel is right, let's face the real competition.... If your content is unique then, in longer term you will sucess... Just keep adding some more good content...and backlinks...more backlinks... Anchor text with some other keywords than key keywords are also helping... Every day, I try to get 10 backlinks on my two key keywords...but... I write articles, blogging etc... to deeper backlinking.... On the forum somewhere is a list of directories which accept deeper backlinkings...so, try to submit subpages with other keywords... It could help, as well
I have the same problem with my website... I lost half of my backlinks in google webamster tool. And Google refuses to index my new content. Some content are about 3 months old, but not indexed yet.... Is this solvable?
