Google penalty - 130 to 700 positions back

Discussion in 'Google' started by linkteam, Jul 8, 2009.

    Hi,

Has anyone else suffered a Google penalty pushing their site back to position 130 - 700 in the SERPs?

It doesnt seem to correspond with previous discussion that typically describes a penality as being usually 30, 50, 60 positions back...

    Any thoughts?

    Anyone have/had a similar penalty?

    How long did it stay?

How did you get out of it?

Friend of mine got a penalty a few months ago, got pushed back by around pretty much the same positions that you've mentioned, for him it's still going on though i think he's in discussion with Google over the duration of the penalty, but i think the best solution would be to just drop it and start from scratch again.

How do you know its a penalty? Its perfectly normal for new sites to float around in the results pages. If your site is any less then 1 year old, do not expect steady rankings.

The old way to check for penalty always used to be to stick your domain name into Google i.e. "mysite.com" and see if it comes up first. If not then usually some kind of penalty has been put on your site. Does anyone know if this still holds true? May have changed by now.

The other way is to check Google Webmaster Tools (where you submit your Google sitemap) and Google will usually tell you there if they have any problems with your site.

If you're sure that you've received a penalty, then you must have done something against google guidelines. Probably artificial link building on a large scale. You can always get rid of links you've bought and submit a re-inclusion request through google webmaster central.

If you can find out what caused the penalty, and you fix that part of the site, then it shouldn't take that long to get your rankings back.

Do you really believe in Google Penalize your website. If you have quality materials which is very useful to people to read Google will not do anything to it, because people need to read it

I think there is no criteria about how much your website will be pushed back in raking when it is penalized.

    only google knows.

I have some sites got totally deindexed from google about 1 to 2 years ago, the sites still function and the backlinks still exist, but none of the sites got index again.

    So, just start another site.

a local site in my niche got penalized, must've been around a -50 as that's where the search results ended up starting when the site used to be on the first page for a large # of keywords in that niche. (i have heard/read of -30, -50 and -950 penalties there must be others)

i check a penalty by one of two methods, have read that if you search for yur domain name, minus www. and .com and your site doesn't come up first or on the first page, there's a penalty.

there's also this tool don't know how reliable it is but it does pick up the penalty for the local niche site in my area as being penalized
    http://www.seopenalty.com/

i have read that depending on the nature of the penalty etc, those can last for a substantial period of time even with a request for inclusion and cleaning things up

You know how fickle Google is, they will penalize for the slightest of reasons

Without you giving us the url etc, you will get LOTS of guesses and that's all.

Give us the sites address we might be able to spot something and be able to help you.

This happened to my website too, I'm not sure what caused it yet though.
