It's normal to be penalized. Check your back links with ahrefs.com and you'll see a lot of backlinks from porn sites or article directories built especially for selling "in content" dofollow links with commercial anchor texts (which is another spam method). try to disavow all the bad links (if you are lucky and are not manually penalized..just algorithmic).

The only way to recover is to remove unnatural and toxic backlinks.

Well, removing un-natural links might prove beneficial. It means all you have to do is download all the back links from the GWT tool and then analyze it one by one remove all the spammy back links by contacting the webmaster of that page. And again if you can't get that back link removed then use the Google Disavow tool. Once all the spammy links has been removed your penalty will automatically removed and you will start getting traffic. Removing back link manually might be a frustrating process but it worths.

Yes. Basically you need to use Google Webmaster tools to find the cause of the penalty and then remove it/fix it. It may be tedious work, if there are a lot of backlinks that got you the penalty, but this is google. It's worth the effort.

You will have to remove bad back links manually in order to get unpenalized.

The first thing is it doesn't have to be a penalty related to backlinks. Websites can suffer from Google updates if they copy content or overdo with advertisements. Maybe there's no penalty at all - usually penalized websites don't show up on the 1st position when searching its name (Corc Chilled UK). This time it's on the 1st position.

@CorrChilled why are you so sure that your website has been penalized? Have you noticed any drop in rankings of organic traffic? When exactly did it happen? You write about an algorithmic penalty so I understand that there's no notification about the manual action in Google Webmaster Tools? Follow the instructions on http://www.seo-station.net/images/pdf/google-penalties-from-a-to-z.pdf (start from page 4) to make sure what kind of problem there is.

First thing that must be done is to isolate the problem, you have determine what causes your problem shutdown.

Most likely your website has bad backlinks that Google didn't liked. You will have to check all your backlinks and locate the bad ones and remove them. The ones which you are not able to remove you must submit them to the Disavow tool in Google's webmaster.

    Hope this helps!

I don't think your site has been hit by any penalty, it is still showing on page 1 on many of the searches. For instance for "high quality commercial refrigeration uk" you are #10 so not doing bad. You only need to panic if you get a notice from Google. If there has been a dip in hits then try to get some links from high PR high-authority sites.
