I have read at lot of places that Google is penalizing Web 2.0 websites like Squidoo, technorati, etc. And their rankings are dropping consistently.

Is there any truth to this?

Most of the sites contain content that is copied and without prior permission .
Thats good that they are penalized.

This is not very true. But, I agree Google to penalize all the sites that abuses Ajax.

Sphinks, I searched for the term "squidoo slap" on google and almost 10,000 results came up. So there has to be something to it.

Squidoo got rid off my page and couldnt justify why, but they did, so I guess they are keeping tabs on the content of their lenses.

Pretty soon dofollows are goin to be hard to find!

its nothing to do with the site being Web. 2.0, if true its the fact that alot of the content is duplicated.

I haven't heard anything formal on the issue, but it wouldn't surprise me.

After all, many of these sites are simple clearinghouses for information. In other words, duplicate content. The optimizer who relies on these social networking sites to build links should look to diversify their strategies because Google very well could discount many links from them in the future.

What i think is that many user copied others content and posting in their lens for better traffic hence google might be consider this as spamming technique...

It may be possible ...now days many bloggers posting same post on different blogs and social bookmarking sites.

May be possible to avaoid such mistakes make a lens with unique and quality content so google gives you priority.

Though i'm not sure but it is possible that google will penalize for duplicate content.

    No,

its just people posting stuff to get a lot of backlinks.

You've just helped them by posting one. Its called link bait.

    Exactly,
Thies sites get too much high rankings for there pages. When Often there pages are just a bunch of links to the pages there knocking down in serps.
