Really? So my source within google is full of shit?

Google is penalizing sites with multiple directory listings ( excessive directory listings ).

Anyway, directories are useless. Whenever i search via google - I never ever, get ANY results for entries within directories.

Also with $500 worth of directory advertising - I get more from google results themselves than the thousands of directories that my test site was listed.

When you say that your 99.9% sure. Make sure you are sure ;)

Start coming up with facts to back it up. First what are you searching for. Second you lack the concept on how things work, you're one of them that thinks because it's listed in a directory it should have some priorities with the search engines, does not work that way pal, it is with many variables on how ever does the search engines works, how it works no one really knows, just speculations is all it really is.

It seem as if you had been disappointing with the directories you got listed in, that outa teach you to accept those deals that will submit your site to 10,000 directories for $5.

No, Google does not penalize sites for being listed in multiple web directories, but do realize this: if you're constantly using the same anchor text and description combination, Google will most-likely detect this and thus the value of your weight in your links will be decreased, most-likely greatly. Google knows what it is, and Google certainly knows that most directories are basically link-farms. Only high-quality web directories are looked at as authoritative figure to/by Google and thus is rewarded with a better Google PageRank. So be sure to submit to quality web directories, of which most-likely contain at least a Google PageRank of 1 (at least 1 shows that the site/directory is established and can go somewhere).

If you're questioning my reference to the weight of a link that I referred to in this post, check my blog post regarding whether or not forum signature links actually help SERPs. It's the same concept, as Google can certainly distinguish directories as more-over an unnatural place to receive backlinks, ie the backlinks on there are not organic & unnatural.

I think not, because otherwise anyone could sink a competing site, being discharged in the directories to the site you want to bathe google.

Google does place emphasis on directories, just not that many, I've done a backlink analysis and some of my backlinks are from directories. However I've submitted to maybe 1000 using software.
Maybe only 3-5 got counted as backlinks. As said its the quality of directories, you will only get penalized if you own the directories and are cross linking to your own site.

People say that its a waste of time, to submit to directories, but I think its also a waste of time to submit to blogs now. So many are no follow and most of them are very fussy of what links they allow.
The ones that aren't fussy are usually filled with spam.

So you're really only left with social bookmarking, web 2, and article submission.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, you should be fine using directories. Try to use the better ones, though. avoid spam and illegal moves

Software is not recommended for this process, hence the lack of backlinks from it, if cross linking was the only reason then by right most directories would not have been penalised.

Its impossible to submit to blogs, its good that a blog is fussy about what it approves.
