Google is starting its own payment system now http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050618...UL37.OCes0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA2NDg4NWRqBHNlYwN0Yw Just in case you guys don't know
Google debit cards, Google gold cards, Google platinum cards as I suggested to them 8 month ago would be an option I guess plus other features better then paypal.
Agree, I think it would be a good thing also. Paypal has such awful cutomer service, it'll be good to see them get some competition.
Although keep in mind there is a reason that Paypal doesn't service certain areas. It isn't a random whim. Google may offer its service for those areas but don't expect it to be the same as everywhere else (or at least not after the intoduction of it) The fact is that fraud determines coverage and somebody has to pay for that fraud. I doubt it will be Google.
Hi, From a merchant perspective, I've had nothing but good service from Paypal. Email and telephone. I just thought I'd add that, because people are happy to shout the bad, but rarely the good in a company. Cheers Chris
Great. I can hear my son who is 3000 miles away: "Dad... would you send me a hundred and fifty GoogleBucks?" afterthought: just tried to register 'googlebucks.com' ugghhh it's unavailable. Owner? Google Inc.
It's confirmed: http://news.com.com/Google+CEO+confirms+online+payment+system/2100-1024_3-5756571.html?tag=nefd.top Schmidt said Google does not intend to offer a "person-to-person stored-value payments system" like PayPal's, in which money briefly resides in PayPal's control during the transaction, but he did not give details of how the Google system would differ.
For big net biz watchers, this ought to be an interesting bout... Coming soon: PayPal merchant accounts. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=19204
I was just reading a article on yahoo and i just came across this: Google is planing to create a online payment system that will directly compete with the leading online payment system PayPal Read the full article: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=582&e=1&u=/nm/20050622/wr_nm/tech_google_dc This should be interesting to see.
For those who haven't heard the latest: (Summarized from Reuters) In remarks Tuesday, Google's CEO, Eric Schmidt, confirmed the company is working on payment services which are "a natural evolution of Google's existing online products and advertising programs, which today connect millions of consumers and advertisers," Schmidt told Reuters in a brief telephone interview in which he declined to elaborate. Schmidt also says that Google does not intend to offer a "person-to-person stored-value payments system" like PayPal's, in which money briefly resides in PayPal's control during the transaction, but he did not give details of how the Google plan would differ. "We believe that e-commerce can be improved and we are working on ways to improve the user experience," Schmidt said. I personally believe that Google will use this to move to a Cost-per-conversion model for its advertisers. Just a hunch though. Also, I find it VERY interesting that the GoogleBucks.com domain name is owned by Google. I know from experience with the company that they don't buy domain names unless they have a specific purpose for them.
One of those "specific purposes" is to prevent other people from owning the domain names and encroaching on the Google name... whether or not Google ever intends to use them.
