It is Google's new search algorithm which includes approximate 260 points which determines search engine page ranking (SERP) of a website for a particular keyword.

The first thing you should know is that Google has an algorithm for returning search results. You can split it into 2 parts. The first part returns all of the pages that are relevant to your search term and the next part ranks them in order of relevance to your term. This is intended to return web pages so that the most relevant ones come first.

The Google Panda update is a change to the way the second stage works, i.e. the page rank algorithm. Google has implemented Panda to try and make the way that web pages are ranked more relevant.

Panda is a frightening specter for people who have a blog with the English language. For a non-English writing I think is still safe and not too scary

Google Panda has helped people like me who write original content for their sites to beat all those who just use copy/paste and force their way to the top through SEO. Basically, you need to make sure that the content on your site is...
    1. Original
    2. In-depth
    3. Valid
    4. Interesting
    5. What people are looking for

Once you've done all of that, then follow the rules of SEO and linking. If you miss out that original content then all the SEO efforts you put in will be watered down and pretty pointless.
