Let's say I have a pr5 site. If a create a new page on that domain name that is linked to from the homepage, will it get pr or do I have to wait untill the next pr update?

You will have to wait until the next PR update.

Is there anyway to not have links to those pages but still get pr on the next update?

The whole idea of PR is that PR is passed down from the linking page to the new one, so in order to get PR you will need to have another page with PR linking to it :)

It will get PR as soon as Google sees it (matter of days).

If you talk about the PR value in the toolbar then yes, will take time until next update.

Thanks for the answers! I have one more question though. I have a directory. If the homepage gets to a pr 5, what do you estimate the category pages will get in terms of pr?(like Internet or Home)

That is easy to answer with an example. Visit any directory with a PR5 index page and look at the category pages. PR drops about one unit per hop from the index page.

3 or 4 depending on the number of links on the page and how strong the PR 5 is.

-1 or -2 if it is just one click from the page, depending on the number of links on the page and how strong the PR value is. If it is PR 6,7 or 8 it could even have the same value.

*** Since the 4/4 PR update something seem to be changed though and it is not unusual that totol strange values are reported and for example higher PR for internal pages than home page. ***

so, say that if an internal page(without toolbar PR) of a site is indexed in google and the site homepage has a PR, would you base your link exchange/ linkbuying etc. on this approx. PR value? :)

and what PR should one expect for the internal pages and the home page in the case of a new site created on a PR5 domain (not site)?
will the site be assigned a new homepage PR or the domain's PR (PR5 in this case) will be passed on to the site's homepage?:)
