Google updates PR every day. They do a data push every 3-4 months and they just did one this month, so the next one will be in April or May.

Competetive niches needs links (therefore, PR goes up) ;)

    of course, if you can get behind .edu or cnn.com, sure google will share love with you;

also for low competetive niches, where webmasters are just starting out and cant' even write proper title or creates pages in flash, the regular joe with title, h1 tag and 3 paragraphs of text and ball type menu with 20 pages easily wins these ;)

That may be sandy, but PR makes no difference at all. But getting a link on a .edu domain I have heard works wonders for your rank.

Of course, thats a common sense - on-page optimization, but additionaly you need loads of high quality links! One of quality indicators is high PR!

Not sure what we're arguing about here :)

Were not really arguing, but just because a site has a 0 pr does not mean its not very powerful. a lot of power pack websites have 0 pr. www.wheelielinks.com is mine and it has 0 pr. Yet if I put a link at the bottom and top on every page in that site, it generates 3-400 links in one week!

Thats just it, it doesn't rank. But the way I have it developed it is strictly for powerful links. Any link placed in it goes from a pr 0 - pr 3 within two weeks. www.theseokit.com is living proof. So is www.geekssite.com geekssite.com was removed from the site so the pr has started to weaver a bit.

I took a new site up to PR5 for the main page and PR6 for "/blog" page in about two months. Is this good? My traffic has increased but it's still only around a few hundred uniques per day.

MMM, 2 months is not a lot of time, my guess is you will see that pr drop, then slowly come back. I would stop linking if I were you to avoid getting black listed or something else terrible that the SE's could cook up!

I agree that PR is more for "entertainment purposes". It doesn't mean anything. I have seen sites that are all over the place (I don't mean directories) as their content; meaning they are just what I consider "hack sites".

The main thing to focus on when dealing with linking and rankings is the content and the relevancy of the content. Then go out find sites that are relevant to yours and see if they can link to you.

    Users first, SEs second.

Yes, but the quality is more valuable than the quantity of the links. Focus on that.

    hi,

i m sure tht till now u wld hav got an idea as to wht is a PR... well to sum it up in brief:

PR is the ranking given by G to ur website on a sclae of 1 to 10 on the basis of certain algorithms like:

    1. Inbound links
    2. Content of your site
    3. Navigation and coding of your website

and many more... with the most importance given to the 1st point . :)

    Cheers,
