Very nice idea from Google. Should make it much easier to keep up to date with most of the essential apps you normally use. Go Google!
Good find, but some posted it about four hours ago http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=49217
This is nice for those who aren't net savvy and need something to keep the most important apps up to date without too much hassle... Good job Google, but now go fix your old SERPs issues please...
Google made those that matter to them happy today - the end users. Those folks are happy as hell now because they have a state of the art free tool to keep their stuff up to date for them. The last thing they are worried about right now is what those of us who "work to plead them" think. Those folks that downloaded this software today are very happy, and the majority of them will probably take any rankings that google provides as being "perfect"
When I originally posted that I thought it cool, I mispoke. I thought google actually had developed windows software. Since I recently purchased a Quad G5 PowerMac (RAWR!) I wasnt able to really check it out. I fired back up my windows box with RDP the other day and I guess I totally missed the point cause all I see is stuff I had already. Well except for the norton crap. IMO the only good norton av is the ultra lightweight Corporate client.
The package is actually very well suited for the market they are aiming for being first time users. In a nutshell it contains some of the most essential software you would need to use online. Of course all the Google apps aren't very essential, but having them should make things a bit easier. Us webmasters tend to be at the forefront of most technologies related to the web, so we most likely have all of those extensions and software already installed. However if you buy a new PC or your HDD crash and you have to install everything again, it should make things a bit easier.
Google Pack is only available for Windows XP? Come on, we have a few people left running Windows 2000...
