Google only showing 4 back links, although I have many more

So i submitted my site to 100's of directories (at least 100 were approved so far) and my site has been featured on a couple CSS design sites. This was done at least 3 weeks ago...

However, when I type link:www.mysite.ca into google it only shows 4 results (from a long time ago). Whats the deal?
Is something wrong, or should I just wait it out longer?

In webmaster tools it says theres 190 links to my site

Google does not always show all the back links use Yahoo siteexplorer to get more accurate number of backlinks

Google never shows all the incoming links...They recon something to do with protecting their algorithms. Probably just because it would leave their database wide open to abuse.

ctca, if you want to see your backlinks use a more thorough tool like http://www.backlinkwatch.com, Yahoo Site Explorer or Google Analytics. That method is by far the least accurate.

Also, directory links such as the those you've submitted can take up to a month or two to show.

The sites Google show are the sites Google trust as authority sites – just one more reason why I hate Google – but they are the gods of the web aren’t they?

The link: operator only show a very small sample of your backlinks where Google webmaster tools show a bigger sample.

I suggest you use GWMTs and Yahoo site explorer to check your backlinks instead of using the link operator.

Give yahoo site explorer a try. Although they don't show the total number of backlinks either you will see a lot more than Google.

unlike yahoo, google gives limited information about your backlinks.
for the real-time result you should give a try to yahoo site explorer, or backlinkwatch.com

As other said above, using Google's 'link:' operator won't give you the complete list of inlinks to a website. If you're checking your own website, you should use Google's Webmaster Tools and submit your site there.

Other tools I recommend are SEOmoz's Linkscape and MajesticSEO but they're not free. Yahoo's site explorer is good, but won't last for too much longer.

I just compared the backlinks of some of my pages,
shown by Yahoo Site Explorer and Google Webmaster Tools -

    YSE - GWT
    5661 - 1522 (3.7 times)
    1337 - 89 (15 times)
    349 - 129
    278 - 31 (9 times)
    258 - 90
    245 - 56 (4.4 times)
    237 - 70
    97 - 36
    92 - 41
    81 - 59
    80 - 23
    73 - 62
    70 - 22
    46 - 18
    40 - 5 (8 times)
    37 - 18
    36 - 13
    33 - 20
    32 - 9
    31 - 15 (2 times)

    One Exception -
    YSE - GWT
    18 - 51

That should give you some idea of how the reporting of links varies between the two companies.

Google keeps changing what they report. I "used to have" 8,000 backlinks. Now I have 2,700, which is bull. You cannot use the Google data over time to draw any conclusions whatsoever, because they are constantly changing the criteria, so that no data set is related to any other. The data simply consists of "some links".

Never Use Google for backlink analysis.
    Always use Yahoo site explorer.
One thing you need to know is, Yahoo does show 'nofollow' links which are not counted as backlinks by Google.

Yes, webmaster tools are the best. Yahoo shows nofollow links, embedded images, redirections and so on as backlinks.
