I have a English travel site based in US. In the last month, I have bought 2 one-way backlinks from 2 homepages of Chinese sites. One is a PR8 train schedule site and the other is a PR7 portal site of a famous local newspaper. I set the both anchor texts with a same keyphrase. But it seems nothing happened to my Pagerank nor keyphrase ranking. My keyword ranks bad on the 3rd page. So does anybody could tell me if google only like those backlinks come from same country/region/area?
If they are completely unrelated to your site, and in a different language, then they are pretty worthless in the eyes of Google.
Only 2 drop of water will make something different? To get a noticeable result you should have more and more backlink.
It could be the case dear. even I noticed something similar for one of my blogs. Earlier I bought a link from PR3 page whose owner is from my own country. For that keyword my blog went from page 5 to page 2 in just 2-3 days. Now I bought 3 to 4 links with similar keywords from related sites with PR 6 but I see no impact on the rankings in Google. So I admit that your words could be tru in this regard.
You don't see results because it is clear that you trying to buy page rank in order to boost your site. Any time you start pointing high pr links to your site google is going to take notice of that and have a look to see what your up to. Did you check to make sure that the links were in fact dofollow?, sometimes it might appear as dofollow but could be blocked in other ways.
It is not the region issue, IMO. Only 2 backlinks would not have so much impacts on your PR or SERP. You might want to keep building quality backlinks using your targeted keywords as anchor text from those niche relative higher PR sources. Have a nice day,
Google doesn't care if the backlinks come from a site in the same country/region/area as the target page. They just care about the quality of link and how relevant it is. If you have a travel site and get a link from, say, a cooking page, Google might wonder what the relevance is. They might wonder if you have a buddy webmaster (of the cooking site) doing you a favor by linking to your travel site. In their eyes, it would not be a high-quality recommendation. Better to get a recommendation from an authority in the travel industry or a travel-related site. In any case, any backlink should boost your rankings. Perhaps it just takes a little more time. After all, you only got the links last month. Or perhaps the links use the "nofollow" tag. In this case, your site would not get any rankings benefit, just more traffic.
Thanks for all the answers. Anyhow, I have no choice now but keep an eye on it. Maybe some changes will appear after the coming Google updating. Thank you.
First if you have bought these links last month only to have a rise in your site's pagerank, then you have to wait till the first week of April to see if your PR increases in this coming update. The sites which you have linked to are PR8 which means they have great amount of traffic and can help you rise your PR too. Now the important factor here is, will Google help you increase your PR even if those sites are not in your niche ?
As other have said , give it time.. G prefers ( so we are told ) backlinks for your niche but th location on the site it comes from accounts for nothing , its the WORLD wide web after all. I am sure that G knows about them and you should get a huge lift in PR when we get the next update. I had a new site and was lucky enough to get an incoming PR7 link and my site went from PR3 to PR5, yours should do that and more when we all dance soon.
Can you explain further on the bold. To OP, from my experience buying links from unrelated sites is not worth the time. Especially if from different language like from China
Its not that Google love links from a specific country. Your rank obviously gonna improve, but only in google.cn
Just two links really won't make any difference, especially if the competition is intense. Try to get links from relevant sites and continue your linkbuilding on a regular basis. PR doesn't increase instantly.
I know what you mean... However, a PR8 backlink passes juice significantly if there aren't many external links there already.a
