Google only indexing 3 pages a day. Normal?

So I'm fairly new to SEO and have a site http://outdoorla.org that I'm seoing. I've put a sitemap with over 500 pages into google and have several P2-4 backlinks yet google is only indexing 2-3 pages a day. Is this normal?

Is there any way to speed this up other than adding more backlinks?

If I change the links to target specific pages instead of the home page will that get those pages indexed faster?

    TIA.

when your site is new, indexing can be slow and unpredictable....deep links should help....it should also be a part of your long term seo strategy

The site has been up for almost 6 months. How long until indexing moves at a reasonable clip?

I have noticed the past few days most of the things I submit to google have been stuck at pending.

Maybe there server is just getting a little backed up now that could be all that is happening to you.

I wouldn't start to worry just yet. Give it a lot more time.

Can you be more specific? Does it take a year before they give you a reasonable crawl rate? Because the site is adding quality content about 3x faster than it's getting indexed. Very annoying.

have you got a webmasters account ?

If your site has several links already, an I mean several like more than 100,

    The 6 mths is plenty

Its possible that google is having problems indexing your site

its possible that the spiders are experiencing errors while on your site

a webmasters account shows you these things

This is a good point if your site cant be crawled by spiders that is why. Sometimes they cant crawl because your links are broken, or you are just using JS to have your menus. There is a lot of things that could really affect how they navigate your site.

index speed is related with power of your backlinks.

if you want to speed it, you must continue to build more backlinks

Nope, google isnt having a problem crawling. It's just going really, really slow. Maximum pages per day is 12 average 3. Another site I'm working on the Max is 448 average 96.

In webmaster tools I have this
We've detected that Googlebot is limiting the rate at which it crawls pages on your site to ensure it doesn't use too much of your server's resources. If your server can handle additional Googlebot traffic, we recommend that you choose Faster below.

I set the crawl rate to "faster" but it doesnt seem to be speeding it up.

I'm assuming that it's limiting the crawl rate due to the number of backlinks, but Yahoo has over 350 backlinks indexed. Is this still too few?

If you want regular update of your pages try submitting all of your pages to digg or other social bookmarking site

OR you can even try to increase incoming links to those unindexed pages and see the magic
