Yup, I read about it somewhere... I think I blogged about it actually. I think it's a pretty good tool, it's not done by a machine either, they hired some guys to go through the most visited sites and see if they have malware in them. So it's not going to be wrong.
oh, so its not bot who review them ? i thought all google use was their smart bots. it seems they have staffs too
If Google is so smart and can detect potential malware threats, why then did Google not look at my "user agent" and determine that I was immune to such problems? I don't use a PC.
Very strange new feature. Maybe it will mean the end of attempting the automatically downloaded Malware on websites?
I hate it when people say this. Just because you don't have a PC doesn't mean you'll never get a virus or get hacked. You're just less likely to. I guess since this guy's banned now it's pointless to ask what the URL was... I'm guessing it was to one of his own sites.
They do not have to "ivade" my computer to get that information. I freely give it to them each time my computer announces itself to a new network. A lot of places use this information to better shape a users experience. None of that information is private.
I did not say I never would. But I never have, and I doubt it is going to happen any time soon. Who got banned?
This feature was in the news a few days ago. I havent come across a site yet in my searches that displays this. It sounds like it will be good for those who accidently click through to bad pages who do not realise. (like parents etc...)
I have also seen this in the last couple of days. I was searching for some security stuff and wound up at a crack's site. I was warned before I hit the site.
Hmm.. Kinda makes you wonder now doesn't it. It took 34 replies before someone mentioned this. What it makes you wonder is... is google truly making a concerted effort at protecting PC's, or are they using this as a way of fighting Warez, software pirating, etc.? After seeing much the same as tpn87 in a similar search (hence the reason the URL is marked out, since I do not condone the link that I was directed to) I highly doubt there was/is any malware at that particular site, or any like it. I've not stumbled across any other such sites, other than what was just mentioned that have that warning prior to entering them. Just an observation. I could be wrong. But what's next? I don't really like having my searches pre-empted with obligatory censorship and or opinions to the later. I supposed it would be a nice feature to turn on and off. You have to ask yourself though, who is doing the qualifiying here? What is to keep your site from being entered into this database? How do you get out? There are some pretty far reaching implications here IMO. Do we really need an SE expressing opinions about web sites before we even visit them? I can think of so many ways this could be abused. Anyway, just something to think about.
i encounter this for the first time today! wonder how they detect it. it sure deter me from going into that particular site though..
They are not detecting it. As I understand it, someone reports you and you are entered in a database. It is this data base that is checked against the site link. If the URL is in the db, you see the message. If not, you don't.
