Is this a win for Google or an epic fail? Didn't see this posted; just want to get people's opinion. 1) Will this improve search? 2) WIll this hurt webmasters relying on long tail phrases? (more opportunities to discover different content on the way to your query).
Just for testing purposes I can't see how it wouldn't be useful for Google. Search engine results need to be improved -- I mean, 10+ years later (since SE creation) and many times search results don't always make sense...
well, some people will lose traffic while other gain. It's time to reconsider SEO and link strategies I guess ...
You are right. It will be more difficult for a website to stay in competition because every time you will see different website appearing in search engine in real time. Which i think can change a dramatic way of traffic.
I haven't had a chance to see the instant search yet. Is it showing the Adwords ads on the sidebar dynamically as well?
I just noticed that only google.com works. google.co.uk does not work. Neither does work any other tld.
As I said in the other Google Instant thread, this is going to make it much, much more important to be on the first page of results. Even fewer people are going to click on 'page 2' of their search results, and therefore SEO (both white and black hat) will need to be kicked into high gear... The boost to adwords is likely going to be considerable.
Oh boy, I don't think I like this, at least not from a webmaster's perspective. I have to admit, as a google user, this seems to be an improvement.
My traffic has definately dropped today but I'm not sure that it's entirely due to Google Instant. My site is still appear immediatly on the first page for certain keywords. From a user's prospective, it is way to erratic, especially going from google.com to typing in your first character.
A quick test shows it does not jump around that much. It tends to guess the keyword you are going after, and the results "freeze". For example, once you put in "gu" on your way to "guitar," it starts supplying "guitar" results, and they don't change. That is, gu, gui, guit, guita, guitar all give you the same page of results. I do wonder how it will affect those working the misspellings...
hmm, just to think about it, when I type something, I don't look at my monitor. I look at the keyboard until I finish typing a keyword or a phrase. So me, as a user, it does not affect at all.
