Google now allows you to remove promote listings to the top?

Ok what the H*LL is this. Go and search for something on google. They now have an X and a Arrow next to search results. Looks like they are copying reddit.com. Why do we need pagerank if Google now allows users to select the serps. Does anyone have info on this ?

here is a bit of info on it http://www.google.com/experimental/a840e102.html

    a) it's experimental
    b) it's only for your personal settings , when you're signed into your google account.

Though having said that, I don't like personalised search, and I wonder if anyone is doing any research on how it's changing users search habits - or not?

If I were to use personilized search to give my own sites good ratings, and hire some other people to give them good ratings too, will that improve my rankings for the general unpersonilized searches?

    just wondering

there is also an optiion to add your site in for a particual result. so what you can do it get a bunch of people to add your site in for a specific result. this might totally change SEO as we know it.

Not sure if anyone has read this yet but Google is implementing a "I like this" system now. Whats everyones thoughts about this? Do you think this will have major impacts on search results or will people just ignore this feature?

Personally I think that it won't become popular very fast so there won't be any major changes for a while.

*Hopefully I posted in the right forum and no one posted this before me(I did search and couldn't find it posted).

    Just saw that.

Crazy stuff; if this hit off, it could well mean the death of MFA sites :(

Life just keeps getting harder by the day :p

    Edit:
So where do I use it; is it just an idea, or have they made it available to public - the page doesnt make that too clear.

Google is experimenting on something which they believe could improve the user experience. Does this means a socialized approach is going to be involved in determining the search ranking position?.

This would just be personalized results and probably not effect the index as a whole, this would offer WAY to much manipulation and cheating.

They can build algo to aggregate the results to use it on main SERPs. They are in fact currently monitoring CTR and usage on your keywords. if you guys want, i will write some more details. am bored right now

I think they might be heading towards personalized search results based on what user search and what sites they usually visit.
