    Hello everyone,

I have been optimizing a site on google for Horse Rugs and Saddlery Products keywords.

My site was in 7th position for saddlery products keyword and on 26th position for horse rugs in google.

But,from this week google is not showing my site in top 50.What can be the exact reason for this.

What should I do to regain the old position.

    Please guide.

I believe the site might be sandboxed now.....did you do aggressive link building for your site?

Can some one please explain 'sandbox' and why aggressive link building would have anything to do with it.

    Thankyou

Sandbox is something that people either believe or don't believe. It usually means that within the first 6 months - 1 year you won't get a lot of love from google.

This can sometimes be considered a period for you to build your sites reputation.

You probably don't rank for those terms anymore, because you have competition who is successfully ranking higher than you for those terms.

People tend to forget what their competition might be doing to compete with them, and it is an important element in determining why a site may no longer rank for certain key terms.

Supposing your competition is not doing anything to outrank you, it could be as simple as the things that used to give your pages value either no longer exist or they have lost their power to give your pages value.

Google Love comes from inbound links. When a page is new (less than 30 days old, it is given value as a news item). Once the news cycle is completed, the page will slide down to where it deserves to be according to the google algorithms. When a page acquires inbound links that google counts as legitimate and worthy links, then the page will exit the mystical sandbox.

Folks, the mystical sandbox is a definition that people have cooked up to define the missing ranking value of a page, between the time when the page drops out of the news cycle and when it begins to acquire link popularity.

As the master of your domain, you get to choose how long a page is sandboxed. Most people don't realize they have that kind of control, but with smart link building, one can bring a web page out of the mystical sandbox in days or weeks, instead of months. You define the time line, not google.

I built a new page 16 days ago that is holding page one in Google against 200,000+ websites, in my Blackhat Fish SEO Contest entry.

Now, one could argue that I am still in the news cycle, so in another two weeks, my page will disappear from the Google results. But, I have build such a diversity of links to this page, from different locations with different anchor text in the links, that I fully expect that when the news cycle is done, my page will remain outside of Google's mystical (or mythical) sandbox.

Test my proof by checking back here in a couple weeks, or even in four weeks or six. If I am right, you will be able to click this link to Google's search results for the keyword pharse Blackhat Fish, and see my page title on page one or two of Google's search results ("Whitehat vs. Blackhat: Fish For Links or Die Trying").

I say page one or page two of Google's search results, because I would be surprised if I won the competition. However, if I am still in the top20 results for the search key term after July 10, 2008, then I will have proved to you that anyone can beat the sandbox, if only they exercised the right strategy for doing so.

Nice article in SEO News Bill. I think you have clearly explained the sandbox concept. I think many people simply get frustrated with the arbitrary amount of time a site might move up in the SERPS.

I used to hail from Oklahoma myself. I might be moving back later this year.

Yeah truly well explained. Luckily I learned about the sandbox concept 3 months after I made my first site and was topping google's charts on every keyword lol...so no sandbox fears for me :D

But yeah ...sandbox is something ppl like to believe in just to keep themselves satisfied that sandbox is the reason they are not coming up on google's SERP's...and nothing else imo.

    Just my 2 cents..

Rofl I just followed this link from SEO News titled The Mythical Google Sandbox and How To Escape It By Bill Platt (c) 2008 the Phantom Writers . Oft times SEO News wil write a post about any webmaster/seo topic and use links from DP. But here is a brief synopsis of the article. They feel that there is no such thing as the Google Sandbox and that it is as mythical as unicorns.

Other than sandbox, there is also another obvious reason whereby competitors page have overtaken your position. Maybe you should focus more on link building so that your page will regain back the original position.

I think you should not aggressively build links, rather you should do something like generic/organic and should wait and give time for google to maintain rep on your site.
BTW., looking the site in your footer it seems your store and u r located in India if u r owner of that site :) I also stay in India and have started horse riding 10 days back and I'm enjoying a lot.. though i dont own horses or i would have to buy something from your shop, but one day i would like to own a horse infact a couple of dozens of horses i love them

Or as in my challenge, my aggressive link building has my listing in the #3 spot in Google for the targeted key term mentioned in the article. (In the early morning hours of 4-11-08.)

I did a post about how I finished in the SEO Contest and how I achieved the results that I did. You can see that information here.

On the day the contest ended, 30 days from its start and 25 days from my start, I was #11. Three days later, I was ranked #5, as evidenced by the screen shots. Later today on the 11th, 31 days after the original post, I will have the new screen shot up showing that my pages rank #3 and #4 in the search results.

The news cycle should end today, so what will be interesting is where my entry will rank in a week. :)

Yes, it was this thread that gave inspiration to the article that appeared in SEO-News, and I linked to this thread as I should have. ;)

p.s. Thank you everyone for your kind comments. It is nice to hear positive feedback now and again.
