I want to hear your opinion about dmoz. Still worths to lose precious time getting listed in it or it's not what it used to be anymore.

Well it's definately not what it used to be.

Unfortunately it won't ever be reaching that status again in the future again either.

A big portion of sites ranking on the first pages of search engines are not listed in dmoz.

Try it, search for any term which you like in Google and see if the results which come up are listed in dmoz?

There are so many other better alternatives nowadays.

Yahoo directory still remains a priceless gem.

You waste no more time submitting to dmoz then any other directory... if you are working from the "free lists" offered here on DP then your chances are equal to getting into any of the others...half of which are no longer maintained.

So just add it to the list and then treat it just like any other directory out there.

Submit and forget, or forget to submit!

Though honestly, this thread is a duplicate. You may wish to learn how the search function here on DP works.

It's just so hard even for a high quality site to get on dmoz. Due to the volume of submissions they get, it can become somewhat arbitrary which site gets in and which doesn't.

I think google still loves dmozs. Eventhough, you may not see any change in google directory, you still search with the same result in DMOZ. I don't know why google does not update their directory.

The google directory has recently been updated on some google data centres and it seems to be spreading to others. So predictions of an impending divorce might be a bit premature.

I just love how crappy geocities sites from 1999 made it into Google directory, but decent sites never seem to make it in there. Great job.

If you really want to get listed, you can always contact one of the nebuchadrezzar friends to list your sites for the right fee. You don't think that nebuchadrezzar defends the corruption in DMOZ out of the goodness of his heart, do you? ;)

it would be a catch-22. They can just take your money and do nothing - you can't legally pursue it, since it violated a TOS :D

I suppose you haven't seen the other thread and how DMOZ editors sell links. You won't pay until listed. :D

I gave up to get listed in dmoz. I tried it about five times with different domains. No chance for me.:(

You could make a Geocities page ;)

Though keep in mind that many of the geocities links in there from the late 90's have been in there since the late 90's and that was the last an editor bothered to approve anything.

    good point!

Still, it's pretty pathetic to be in the year 2007 and see garbage populating that directory. I wonder what a top manager of Google would say, when asked why their directory is depending on a corrupted site that is filled with extremely outdated, irrelevant information, and editors who practice nepotism.

    Good Question!

I hope upon hope that it gets asked as well.

I can say however, that there are signs of google directory updates. I can also say that rather then reporting the sites to DMOZ like I have been, that I'll start reporting them to Google... maybe if they get enough feed back showing just what they are supporting they'll think twice about it.

If you removed all the topix stories I'd be willing to bet that DMOZ would no longer be the biggest directory out there ;)

a search for Topix trips the 10k limit on search results.

So while the world can see that there was an issue, DMOZ certainly does not think there is one.

Just one of my developer's websites went to sandbox.
I do not see any reason...
Rich real content, natural backlinks, optimized, 3-4 outgoing backlinks, w3c valid.

    Whatever...
This is over 3-years old domain.
From 3 years in DMOZ. And still is.

    So now answer yourself.

It's OK for DMOZ but not for Google.

    And from other hand:

Have other websites, as well established as above mentioned.
It's well ranked in Google on TOP10 page.

But all are not enough good for DMOZ.
