Looking at one of my sites the total number of links in webmaster tools is down but I still have quite a few directories including DMOZ. These are far out numbered by scrapers stealing my content and site wides. So what gives? Google likes scrapers more then directories?
well, i think that will give fair % to those who only submitted to search engines.. but i don't think it's right.. LOL anyway, thanks for the heads up
I have always said that this had to see its end some day or the other. It was a real mystery why Google ran after impractical DMOZ with dubious editorial records. In my view, an ideal search engine has to search the webscape, not pull out results from its databases/stockpiles. Still, the algorithm of all companies are self determined and are just reminders of their individual abilities. It is unfortunate that this is precisely what we are chasing in the rat race.
Good news. I hope finally all these thousands and thousands of crappy directories, trying to make quick money, will die and only HQ ones will survive. So, one day Google will suggest again submitting to HQ dirs.
hi, thanks for the post so we should just submit to the main directories & thats great & not others irrelevant ones.?
Hello seo2u, The objective of Directories are designed to make internet users find the information they are looking for and this was the basic thought for the evolution of Search engines. The directories that are old, authoritative are excellent in providing quality back link. So we should always keep in mind that building links from any platform(let it be Directories, SBM etc) with relevancy and without doing spam techniques would help in improving the sites popularity.
it is far to make conclusion yet. Maybe google just don't want to encourage people to focus on yahoo and dmoz
I hope they wont spread this thing further to forum sig links as well. ah man really dont know that google will do next.
so mainly to get good ranking.. or PR.. or whatever.. directory submissions are not counted anymore?? they just keep our lives harder and harder.. ehehehehe.. but its kinda good if they will not count them.. lots of directories are useless.. with nothing on it.. mainly links.. keep em coming... zrhder
Google is employing more human inspection. It will be the largest policed system ever online. But shhhh... you didn't get this from me.
yep, but there is no meaning of good content if nobody is pointing u or voting u as a good content or site. so there is also importance of good quality backlins (not quantity of backlinks). yep, I totally agree with u and I think that's what google mean to say..... don't run behind quantity try to get quality backlinks.
I see nothing in those guidelines that strictly prohibits listing your site in a directory, ODP, Yahoo, or any other for that matter. By removing the specific names of particular directories, all that does is removes any speculation that ONLY those directories mentioned are ones that would be "industry-specific expert sites" as previously indicated. There is no verbage anywhere that would indicate that the submission to a directory is not kosher.
