GOOGLE needs SEO?

Searching Google for the term "Search Engine" gives Altavista, Lycos, Dogpile and Yahoo before Google itself . Maybe Google needs a SEO job to come above them.....he he he.

On the other hand when I search Yahoo for "search engine" Google ranks higher than Yahoo.

Alta Vista is above Google and Yahoo in both cases.

Who uses a Search Engine to search for a Search Engine yet has never heard of Google

Not to mention the fact that they are already actually using Google so they obviously know what it is.

Ha ha, thats some funny stuff. It doesn't matter, Google will always be the best, and I don't understand why people use other search engines.

There could be a varying reasons for a person looking for a search engine - to submit his site, looking for info/site not found in google, checking how well a site is optimised and ranks in different SEs, academic and research reasons etc etc.

This was not supposed to be a serious post. :) .

But I was just wondering what the other smaller search engines did right to get higher above Yahoo and Google....

MSN is actually a better engine. But Google has the market locked down. If you want the newest available information you might search on MSN as they don't do the sandbox thing.

This is a sample of the fact that search engine rankings do not reflect the popularity of a website...

It does make some sense though. A person searching for a search engine on Google is obviously looking for other search engines than Google, so no use in placing Google at the number 1 spot for search engines.

Strictly speaking, Yahoo should then be at the top spot as the most relevant result, but obviously Google wouldn't want to help his biggest competitor so they place less popular search engines higher instead.

    Its simple

1.) Google isn't optimmized for "Search Engine" - Look at their source code
2.) Becuase they are the market leader, when people link to them they use the anchor text "Google" rather than "Search Engine"

    Thats it
