Hello, There is no question Google has been the main talk of the web for a long time. Recently, I was reading a thread that really made me sit back and think. Someone said in the first month of your website you can build too many backlinks for your site. This just doesn't sound true to me. Are you saying Google will penalize you for working extra hard? My first month I over worked myself trying to build as many relevant backlinks as possible. Does this mean that a lot of my work was for nothing? What are your opinions?
Yes, you will be penalized if you get links from spammy, non-related sites. Good links with good anchor text are one of the most important part in SEO.
Hey, Thanks for taking the time to comment! I tried to build back links from relevant sites, but building my back links was a big focus of mine the first month. Will I get penalized if I built a lot of back links from relevant sites? Thanks again. God bless
If you don't do more than 15-20 a day, you'll be fine. And it's not just the first month. Nobody really knows how old a website should be, before you can start building lots of links. But my guess is, it's at least a year. But with 15-20 a day. You can still build a strong base of backlinks.
Hey, Thanks for the comment! If you go over will you be penalized? Or will goo ogle just ignore them?
Not true at all! I have hit a brand new domain with 10k spammy links within 24 hours of me buying the domain - I didn't have any problems at all! Its not how many links you can have its how you go about it, if you spend a day a month building links then you will get hit hard by the big G - If you do the same all the time then you will be fine!!
I'm still confused about this since typically we could destroy competitor websites using automated tools to build thousands of backlinks to there sites.
wannabie is correct. I have personally seen a site use an undisclosed technique to generate 40,000 backlinks in less than 10 days. Results? Page 1 for some competitive terms.
no, not for nothing, chances are you might qualify for the Google sandbox if you are lucky!! again, there is no guarantee! i have built backlinks on new sites and not all of them got stuck on the sandbox, but some did and some never came out of it... so basically it is hard to say, my advice is to just go slow on the start, build it up slowly, then in the next 6+ months, start building the backlinks actively...
It depends on what you mean by "hard work", because we all know there are lots of software that can get through CAPTCHA code and register to forums, post comments on blogs and make up to 10,000 backlinks every day for you. So in this case, you will probably get in trouble. If you really do all the work manually there is nothing to worry about. Pay attention at your site's content thought, backlinks help you in ranking but there are also other things you must consider.
If you build links hard then you have to carry on doing it, dont keep to a routine or have a pattern!!
40k baclinks , 10 days .... so aggresive baclink building ..... not a good idea .. slow and natural is better ...
Hello, Thanks everyone for your comments. Let me be clear. I don't use any tools or any back hand methods to get back links. I get my back links through hard work and dedication. The proven methods commenting, forum participation, guest posting, social networking are how I obtain my back links. It's just that some people will say you should work your ass off the first couple months. Too me that just sounded completely stupid. If you are doing things the right way and not under handed I don't think you should be penalized for however many back links you build. Some people are saying I should take it slow, then others are saying I should keep up the hard work. I don't know who is right here. Well I'm just going to keep working hard. If I get penalized then so be it. I will get penalized for working hard at what I love doing. Just my 2 cents. Thanks again. God bless

Another vote for slow and natural. A part of the Google Algorithm (actually a combination of thousands of algoriths) is detecting backlink growth. Some sites have even been unfairly penalized because their website was mentioned in major news outlets, and suddenly bloggers started linking to their site. If Google sees agressive backlink building they will penalize it. So keep a decent pace and keep it as random as possible. Even adding 10 backlinks every day looks suspicious if it looks like you're purchasing them or faking it.
There is no limit on how many links you can get. The limit is more on how many SPAM links you can get. If you get 1000 good links in a month then that is no problem. However, if you get 50 good links and 950 bad links you will be blacklisted without a doubt.
They dont care about the amount of links but where they come from. If your links come from facebook or twitter - you are golden. Make sure it comes from a profile with lots of LIKES and buddies.
