So in other words Google probably has both,

    Trademark on the name Pagerank
Patent on the pagerank calculation algorithm I suspect

page rank is just one factor in their very complicated algo.
of course directory links are still going to help, it's a vote for one's website and the more diversity in the link profile the better. plus the relevance of the page that the link is on in the directory, in other words in a correct category related to one's website. directories are quite a useful tool for google to help them notice websites and also gauge if a site is important if it appears in a number of older and reliable directories etc...hence the pageTrust factor. so it's not just pagerank and the link juice per se that directories are good for but validating the importance of websites.

Well i am not so sure how I have done a copyright infringment.

these are the trademarks of Digg, i got form their site:

"DIGG, DIGG IT, DUGG, DIGG THIS, Digg graphics, logos, designs, page headers, button icons, scripts, and other service names are the trademarks of Digg Inc."

You are not understanding this, so I will make it more clear for you.

Owning this domain would be trademark enfringement
    paypalwebb.com
Paypal.com owns the trademark for the phrase "paypal"

Same probelm with your domain name
    diggwebb.com
Digg.com owns the trademark for the phrase "digg"

Your domain name could easily be ruled as trademark enfringement.

Try picking a domain name of your own that is unique and brandable. It will be more valuable later.

It will never happen. Because PR is the most important criteria for Google to make the positioning. If Google decides to leave PR, it must bring a better solution.

    I disagree,

PR is not "the most important criteria" for search engine positioning.

Google search results are not listed in descending order based solely on PR. Many other variables determine the actual positioning.

    Answer to your question below,
digwebb.com would most likely be ok, but do some research on search engines for variations of the name to see if anyone else already uses it. Should be ok though.

This has been true since Google killed the PR from just about every high PR directory from the members here a couple of years ago. Man those were the good days, waking up to see $200 dollars in link directory sales to my PR6 directory. Only to have Google kill it, and a month later the recession began. Odd coincidence that when Google punished all of us for no reason for having directories, we went into a recession.

Well that is a good move on your part as it typically takes less than a few hours for me to have sites taken offline for copyright infringement issues when they come up.

If digg had ever wanted to they might have had your site shut down in no time.

Just out of curiosity... What's the procedure of taking a site down for a copyright violation?

in my 6 year of being webmaster, i couldn't really understand the theme/concept/algorithm of PR. i think it must be changed now, there are many issues with this concept now.

upcoming VR may be better option.

You are right but still people care about PR so its important. You cant do better business in the Web master world without PR.

It's like trying to sell a mobile phone without a camera (or bluetooth, or touchscreen, or whatever the latest *gadget* is). The phone might be brilliant. I've had plenty of awesome mobiles that were *just* phones. But the ones with the camera sell more. So too with PR and anything-website-related.

Forget about page rank and focus on getting traffic to your site.

Exactly. You can have a decent PR and very little traffic. Do it for the users - not for the search engines and the rest will naturally follow and the search engines will notice.

After all, we all started our Internet businesses for the users - not search engines. Right?
