Was scanning Google results today and I notice that, while Google has not indexed any of the threads in my SMF forum (or even any of the forum pages other than the forum index), they have indexed a number of user profiles. Is that normal?
you have to buy links to your forum to get it indexed. Google doesn't like forums unless they have good strong paid links.
Funny you say this, on one of my vBulletin boards Google has been hammering my calendar for periods of 13 hours straight every day without fail for the past 2 weeks. The board has PR 5\6 backlinks to posts & categories and the boards index page but none to the calendar, yet G has recently been making love to the calendar more then the posts. One day after 18 hours i thought he was trapped, was going to hold him ransom and tell Google pay me big money or they will never see him alive again lol
I am having the same trouble. If you figure something out let me know. I do know Google index Joomla's forum very well.
I do have sitemaps (I host at 1&1, they provide one that can be updated daily) Anyway, just thought that was weird.
hahahah, the way google has been tossing money around you probably could have gotten mad $$$ for the googlebot
What paid linking service do you work for? I fully agree, I started my forum with barely enough funds to get server space and a vB license, I certainly could not afford paid links. I've still not paid anyone for links, or even traded for them, and currently have over 4,000 indexed pages (and 4k is over twice the number of threads I have).
man you have so many indexed pages over there why you say none http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.simplemachines.org&num=100&hl=en&filter=0
this is very strange http://www.google.com/search?q=site:simplemachines.org this search sometimes only shows 11 pages sometimes shows 116,000 pages as search results !!! Google is broken ?
If you have a lot of backlinks to your forum or quality content then you shouldn't have to worry about getting your forum indexed because forums are known to generate its own links.
you have to submit a sitemap and you have build backlinks for better index. you can also block the user profile with your robots.txt file
Um.. You have absolutely no idea what your talking about, and should probably be quiet until you learn something. Your advice is totally incorrect.
lol.. he doesnt own SMF. SMF is a big forum software similar to PHPBB. He is using SMF backend for his forum..
to help avoid duplicate content reductions on google for SMF forums i use the bellow in the robots txt and have search engine friendly URLs switched on. A few links from your main site, to actual sub forums, direct i find helps a little as well... such as index.php?board=1.0 index.php?board=2.0 etc just my 2c worth.
