Google Mayday Update - Whats new in Google's recent algorithm update... like "Auto-Generated Pages", "Content Farms".
I will sum it up short, may not 100% correct but only from what I have heard. 1. Long-tails keywords are tend to be easier ranking for small websites 2. Real time indexing and ranking (Caffeine) 3. More fine tuned with Spam link attempt (not an official one but some identical link building such as link wheel will be devalued in a soon, based on my personal assumption)
After much debate everywhere, it has turned out that the MayDay update is simple. Watch this Matt Cutts video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ6CtBmaIQM His response is slightly vague, as always, but it seems that the update boils down to limiting the ability of secondary/internal pages to rank for keywords based simply on the authority of the domain itself, without any backlinks to those pages to back up the rankings. Hence the loss of long-tail traffic by many sites. I hope this helps!
This is one of the most concise explanations of what MayDay did that I've read to date. I'm glad you understand Cutts-speak , because I had no idea of what he was getting at, nor did a lot of the webmasters I've been speaking to.
