Definitely look up SEO, as much as it used to be a specialist field, it's becoming the norm these days and shouldn't take up too much of your time.
try froogle, if you have a product oriented website... submit the feed and then get visitors for free...
It's really not tough to get listed in the search engines if you blog, tag and ping. As an experiment, I started a brand new blog on wordpress.com. I post one or two messages per day. After 14 days, I've been listed in google for some of the keywords I've done for almost a week already and my traffic is now 120+ vistors and growing each day. Make sure you tag your posts with technorati and ping pingoat and pingomatic after each post. It's worked for me so far. Andrew Nortwell
