All I want to do is link to Google maps from my website. Do you need an api key if all you want to do is link to Google maps? Are there any tutorials on how I need to format my links to go to the right place given an address? Also, is there any way to have the popup in the middle of the map default to the get directions link so that the user can begin entering their start address right away without having to click first.

Go to the map and copy and paste the Link to this page part in the top right hand corner

I got that much figured out. But, I'd like the pop up in the middle of the map to show up as if the user had already clicked "to here". Is that possible? Is there a query parameter you can pass to do that?

You meant to include the arrow pointer? Not so sure about that one i'm afraid. The maps api is really quite easy to grasp if you want to implement them on your pages.
