    Hi,

Googles new webmaster tools are brilliant, but show some puzzling results.

Our prefered search term is "devon self catering" and we have optimised the site for this. However, which dont rank AT ALL for that term!

We rank brilliantly for the term "devon selfcatering" though! Why is this and how can i change it!?!?

    "devon selfcatering" position 4
    "selfcatering in devon" position 5
    "selfcatering devon" position 10

frankcow is right, but it seems like he didn't explain things well to you.

I had a quick look in the SERPs and it looks like the sites that are ranking well for "devon selfcatering" all use a URL format like http://www.somewebsite.co.uk/devon-selfcatering.asp

Google likes URL's which are hyphenated because it's easy for it to pick out each individual word in the URL. (This is why it's thinking "selfcatering" is a word)

So if your URL looks like this, you'd probably be better off separating the two words by a hyphen.

As for why you're not ranking well for "devon self catering" - this is a more competitive niche than "devon selfcatering" - so it's easier to rank well for "devon selfcatering" than "devon self catering". That's why you're ranking so well for the former and not the latter.

    Does this help?

    Brent
