I launched a new site a couple of weeks back which podded along however at the weekedn ti went mad, including links etc had 10,000 pages listed in gooogle and was getting several hundred read hits a day ranking well. The day after the number of pages had dropped to about 68!!, all the domains still indexed just less pages off each. Yesterday it went back to 7000 and this morning its about 500. Something strange going on i thinks. Anyone notice trends like this
i read something people where saying something along the lines of if you ping out certain types of sites too fast, get too many backlinks too quickly google are hitting you with a couple of day penalty, if you dont carry on then in 3 or so days your orginal listings come back. Wonder if any truth in this? i admit i used ping services to get initia spider interest in my sites and was liste din google within 18 of buying the domain.
Thing is the PR update happens more then just every 3-4 months, it changes weekly, if not daily in there system. We only see the changes though 4 times a year with the little green bar. It is not just about a soon to be PR update, they are changing there algo around and probably testing out new things and that is why we see these huge fluctuations in rankings and pages being indexed. They want us to blame it on the PR update, I think that is a load of crap though. Steve
If you use adwords network for traffic this happens always. Otherwise my guess would be the pages your link been probably moved.
hmm now checking, several of the domains which were pulling in very good hits in google at the weekend have no pages indexed at all (they are 10 days old) still getting spidered on their own accord but gone missing
