Google is falling further & further behind in it's attempt to transform from search giant to a portal. Top 10 Web Brands, December 2007 (US, Home and Work Unique Audience(000) Google 117,719,000 uniques Time on site 1 hour 10 minutes Yahoo 113,203,000 uniques Time on site 3 hours 5 minutes slamming Google 3 to 1 lol AOL 90,850,000 uniques Time on site 4 hours 3 minutes Msn sadly is falling hard 98,338,000 uniques 48 minutes on site Even E-bay stomps Googles butt 90,850,000 Uniques Time on site 2 hours Myspace is kicking Google to the curb as well. 76,325,000 uniques Time on site 2 hours 1 minute Poor google.... try as they may... they cannot seem to become the major destination they wish they could.....
Could you mention the source of this data ? And how is the time on site calculated ? Average time that somebody spends ?
http://www.mediapost.com/research/index.cfm Yes time is calculated based on average of all users that I am aware of. This is a battle Google has been trying to catch up in for years..... Initially I think Yahoo dwarfed Google at 30 minutes to 4 minutes on site time back 3 or 4 years ago. It is why Google is constantly striving to release new apps...to bring users to the site and keep them in the garden walls. AOL had this down to a science in the late 80s lol and it still is paying off.....
well, with google you just search and then go to the website where you've found information. i think they aren't too upset this happens.
Can't quite see how you can say they are loosing... I have never heard someone say "if you don't know, you should AOL it"
Well not a lot of thought needs to go into the notion. Would you want people to come to your store for just a minute and leave or would you prefer they stay a while shop and find what they are looking for?? I'll go with hang out take your time stay as long as they like and allow me the chance to make a sale. Besides that here is what you are missing...... Ads If someone is not staying long.... they won't see many of your ads If someone hangs out for a while chats plays games etc,,,,they will see many more ads and that equals clicks and revenues And that is why Yahoo is the largest display advertising company online.... think outside the box... and believe less of snappy catch phrases.....
It seems competition for the google is growing from yahoo, once considered as a distant follower along with AOL. The time is ripe for the google to redraw its strategy and face the competition head on with its opponents. Time only will tell us how far google will succeed in the battle against its opponents
Is this really a bad things, how can you tell out of thise users on Yahoo!, MySpace, etc a lot of the time is spent due to poor navigation within these sites. Google is so simple and easy to find your way around, why spend more time than you need to. MySpace and Google aren't really comparable, they are two totally different sites, 1 - Google's primary service is the search engine, 2 - MySpace is a social networking website.
I think the most important for a Internet company is how to monetize their traffic, Google did it extremely well, you can have 100x Google traffic, but what matters is Google had much more revenue. AOL-Warner is more of a failed merger, Ebay lost quite a bit on Skype. Microsoft makes big profits but not through its MSN but through its core software business.
I have a few questions for you. 1. Did you lose your pr recently? 2. Did you get banned from adsense? Google is progressing, at a faster rate than any other website you mentioned and is far better too.
1. Nope all rankings and PR for over 60 sites still locked in place. I have rankings at # 1 for over three years straight......I don't forsee those falling anytime too soon. 2. No, I've been an Adsense Publisher since 2003.....thats a long time in internet years 3. Google is a search engine and not a portal. Again the time on site metrics speak for themselves... and in the business world that is a huge grip....been this way for years and Google is not making any real noteworthy progress in this area. 4. Google bought DoubleClick to compete with Yahoos hold on display advertising.
I think MySpace isn't segmented enough to keep the traffic. There are so money spam bots crawling that site it has to be over inflating their uniques. Google is monetizing their traffic like champs. I hope a new player comes along to make them step up their game even more so I can be amazed again by innovations in technology they dish up to us all for free...then pay us to promote. High conversion, quick or not, is success to me.
Exactly. Google just don't need to be a portal. I am sure yahoo makes not more than 5% from advertising on it's portal. Google goes for contextual ads. They hardly focused on ads and seems there is a right strategy.
I would believe what you're saying to a certain extent. Yahoo is popular, on the entertainment aspect....The problem with Yahoo though, is that people don't actually search for a lot of things on Yahoo; they don't view Yahoo as a good search engine. You could have good rankings in Yahoo search engine and hardly get any traffic.
Actually there might be something in it. With the advent of social networking sites and people becoming more net savvy, the actual number of people who do search for products and services in Google could be dwindling, as more and more people rely on recommendations from net friends and social networks. Just a thought.
To many DP users believe Google is King. And many say they prefer Google over Yahoo. If this is the case many of the DP users realy dont stay at Google for much now compared to Yahoo, do they now?. But that is a huge difference of how long one stays, Google a wee bit over 1 hour and Yahoo a wee bit over 3 hours. Apparently Yahoo is giving something more than Google. Staying on Yahoo 2 hours more than Google. I personally prefer Yahoo vs Googles homepage. Yahoo is easier to navigate and much more user friendly and professional looking.
I started to notice that more people switched to Yahoo. I still believe Google is better though. I guess we wait and see.
