What do you have to do to get your business to appear as one of the top three in the local business listing google map thingy when you do a search
Go to google.com/local and register, they will send out post card or call you using the local phone number. It will get listed in the map area same day but not in searches for a few weeks. Good luck!
I think the people who pay the most get put on the top. If you'd like to earn $10 for submitting your own business, get a friend to sign up for that thing where you become a google submitter. Your friend will get paid $2 just for submitting and $8 when you confirm it.
not sure if it is same as I was asking. i am listed. just want to know how to be the top for my small town
It's the yellow pages. Somehow its associated with the yellow pages - I'm sure of it. The reason it came to my attention, is because I'm in a trade that advertises in the yellow pages often. Look up "Portland Tree Services" The box will show up. Why ?? ..... Because "Tree Service" or "Tree Services" is a yellow page heading. Now, look up "Portland Arborist" or "Portland Arborists". See what I mean ?? No box. Why ?? Because its not a yellow page heading even though its a major industry title. (Scatch that last comment. There is a box for Portland arborist. That's a change. I just tested it, and there is a box. So that title has been added. Now, "Portland Certified Arborist" shows no box. But anyway, its altered slightly in the past few months. I'll have to check the yellow pages too and see if they added a heading under that now too.) Now maybe Google is not tied to the yellow pages, and is just using the same identical headings. The yellow pages as a written resource is taking such a bit hit the past 10 years due to internet, I'd suspect that they and Google are working a side arrangement between them.
You'll need a google local business listing, and then you would need to be one of the three closest businesses, to the person doing the search and a quality website with SEO doesn't hurt. Thats odd I still get one chock full of ads as it always has been. The internet is merely another advertising vehicle for some. Many businesses with listings in the Yellow Pages still have them.
You want to know how an industry is taking a hit - like yellow pages?? Let me put it this way first. Portland Community College has one of the best landscape / tree programs near Portland. Portland's population doubled (metro area) since I attended the college program in the 80s. So with double population, the landscape work is double. Yet, the college enrollment remained the same. It has to do with all the migrants coming from Mexico and California and infiltrating the trade. Reducing its wages and educational base. In the past couple of decades, if Portland's metro area doubled, the yellow pages should have doubled. Twice the people - twice the commerce. The pages should be twice as thick. Last Portland Yellow pages I saw a couple of years ago, was roughly the same thickness as it was in the 70s and 80s. So I really don't care what you get. You don't have the "magic" to double the thickness of the phone book yellow pages here. Maybe it's because the west suburbs of Portland are so infiltrated with the high tech computer crowd. It's one of Intel's strongholds for industry. Especially Hillsboro.
