    200 out of 20,000 is just 1%.
This looks more like "tuning" than layoffs.
And, they are invited to reapply?

Usually you hear of a 10% layoff, or something like that.

When it comes to recession, even larger and professionally run companies are not spared and google is one which is feeling the pinch. While others shed their employees in thousands, it is a solace that google sacked just 200 of its workers. Hope they would find a better alternative in the days to come.

You know what, it is ridicules because the managers by google make millions of dollars every year but they lay off employees who make probably 30-50 grand a year. They have to stop that. They should cut income from managers to half and then pay their employees.

I guess even Google can't even withstand the economic meltdown, however, I don't think it will end from here.

looks like 200 people were really hardworking.

But they will be retaken after this recession.

Google makes a ton of revenue on ads and other ventures, so I don't think they are having any serious issues.

That's too bad for them, no wonder our adsense earnings are getting lower.

It's disturbing to read this. If google as a giant company is laying off workers, this can only mean that the current economic downturn looks to be getting worse.
