I came across this saying Google is about to launch free, Wi-Fi, Internet service to everyone in Mountain View.

Wi-Fi is more widespread in USA and I think may start to take off a bit in UK... it will be interesting to see which companies stake a claim to which US Cities if many other companies follow suit.

I believe Wi-Fi is already active in some parts of India like Mumbai and New Delhi.

Nice Topic though and thanks for the link

Wi-Fi is in a lot of countries, just in its infancy though.

The fact Google are offering a free serviceto Mountain View inhabitants is showing they are after protecting their own interests by giving free access to the internet.

However, most other companies do not rely on gaining money from internet advertising and as such, most companies are planning to charge for a Wi-Fi service... just wondering if any other companies would go out and offer free Wi-Fi to the city where their main HQ is located.
