It will be interesting to see what tact Google will take with the OS. Chrome was a cut down browser, great at what it does but limited at the same time. Google Docs is very similar, I would love to use it more but the spreadsheets is limited in the depth of equations you can do. Lets hope the OS is more expansive
I am sure, its popularity will increase tremendously as its free of cost. Hopefully most of the laptop will come with this free OS after 2010..
Something more - G is working on its new operating system for inexpensive computers in a daring attempt to wrest away Microsoft's long running control over people's computing experience.
I think if not all but most of Microsoft's home based user base will quickly try to jump ship over to Google, as far as the corporate level is concerned, they'll probably hold onto Microsoft, mostly due to the fact Microsoft offers excellent customized solutions for large scale companies at very competitive rates
I think the testing phase will begin at or near the end of 2009 and with the first RC's being launched by Google in order to see what kind of reaction they get on the OS
I'm hoping they do just keep it as a no frills os that is just great at what it does and can be used on low end laptops and is open source, oh hang on isn't that called linux?
I don't think they care about competing with MS. They compete to take advertising dollars when people are not online. They've tried to get us online using Google docs and other products that are desktop applications by default, and since results are not satisfactory, they develop an OS to get the ads to us. It sounds like Mohamed and the mountains situation to me
