Just read on th Google Blog that Google is getting rid of Google Answers. http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/11/adieu-to-google-answers.html I never had a chance to use the service, but plenty did. I guess they figure their search engine is powerful enough that people no longer need to pay for answers!
I think the problem was that you had to pay to get answers, and often had to pay a decent amount. Most people who use the web for answers are looking for simple answers to which something like Yahoo Answers is well suited.
Google stopped doing Google Answers, see story here: http://www.cleancomputerhelp.com/replies-end-from-google-answers
I bet the Google Accelerator will be next. Some of things they offer on LABS doesn't fit their model.
I think it's just contrary to their whole nature, of empowering people to find the info they need (for free)
