another thing could be, u have page rank but u lost SERPs because due to many people doing the same niche as you do.

so, ur pagerank might be increased due to ur quality backlinks and etc. I lost many backlinks after this update too..

bear in mind that google discounts depending on their conditions and variables

Competition is tough nowadays and most of the time, you will find yourself getting squeezed out. The only way to overcome this is to come up with quality contents and then update your site as often as possible. Look into link building as well.

Just saw a huge drop in traffic for my one affiliate site...I saw that Google decided to drop me down from #1 for a 2-word keyword to #8. It's killing me. I had that #2 position for over a year...

Agreed. We have also seen this happening to so many webmasters across the board. But it can't be that everyone has lagged in his unique content and link building effort behind 10s of competitors so much as to be relegated to the 2nd or 3rd page.

More over, if the increase in PR by any book reflects "healthy" backlink population, that's half the job done from webmasters' view and a kinda acceptance by Google that we are on track.

I am beginning to think that, Google is experimenting with something new and is still midway through it and not quite getting hold of it.

Submit a request asking to have your PR taken away and your serps back instead :p

Im sure it will come back sooner or later depending on how many links you decide to have pointing to you this next update.

Which site you're talking about, I couldn't see the url or keyword ranking. But is SERPs are down, then this is the high time to update your website with some more content. Also, 3-5 article marketing would work. And all in all, am sure, if everything is alright at your end and you didn't do any bad backlinking or seo, then your serps should be back within next 2-3 weeks. PR has nothing much to do with SERPs.

    Cheers!

The same to me! My pr is up to 2, but the keyword ranking is down to 11. When the pr is 0, my keyword ranking is 4. I don't know why. Not only the one keyword, the other 3 keywords disapperaed form the first two pages, and even not in first 10 pages. I'm so confused.

Maybe the pr is not the important factor for the keyword ranking, but I don't belive the ranking goes so long in one day. What should I do? Optipmise it again?

Sure, sure. PR is just an indication of your backlink counts in Google's index (Don't get me wrong, it will not show all your links with link: operator though)

For SERP, you need a plethora of things with the first being authoritative onsite content, more content and more content added regularly.

However, there is a correlation between your PR and SERP, no matter how much you deny this. But how much it fares in the whole scheme of things is not very clear (and perhaps may not be in the future too!). Going by my experience and looking at what other participants said here, you can safely deduce that, SERP is a game pretty larger than most of us have perhaps imagined.

One lesson, if I may take, is that, for backlink building it is useless to harp on high PR pages if they are nowhere near being in high SERPs. This is true even from a conventional wisdom.

All in all, I think, I should concentrate on building more content pages and keep the link building on on the back burner.

PR doesn't mean a thing and it doesn't influence SERP. I have several examples of high rankings with low PR articles. I even have a blog that is penalized by Google and the whole blog is now PR n/a. But I have articles (also PR n/a) on this blog that rank for single keywords number 3 on the first page of Google. The competition for this keyword exists out of PR 4 and PR 3 sites and articles.

The only reason why I’m interested in PR is for the advertisers because they tend to look first at the PR.

PR is only a “symbol of credibility and trustability” for visitors and has nothing to do with SERP’s.

And BTW, the site I’d mentioned earlier in this topic is back in Google, only not on the first page but at position 105. He’s back since yesterday and I hope that I’m going back to the top quickly. :)

My site actually experienced almost 85% traffic drop. Which was annoying for me. It has been 4 days now and it stayed at low traffic. But on the other side, i am happy.. Why?? I earned more on adsense with this low traffic. Wheeww..
