Google Keyword Tool Accuracy?

I was wondering what people's thoughts were on the accuracy of the Google Keyword Tool?

I've found it of great assistance in deciding on keywords to target, but there have also been massive differences between the 'Local Monthly Searches' and the reality.

Below I've outlined my current ranking, actual monthly traffic from the keyword & the keyword tool's "Local Monthly Searches":

    Keyword 1: 1, 60, 2900
    Keyword 2: 2, 57, 2900
    Keyword 3: 2, 12, 5400
    Keyword 4: 4, 48, 3000

I should also mention that these search terms are, as far as I am aware, highly targeted and only have one meaning.

    nice avatar!!

I would say that Google keywords tool is not all that accurate either...

I use it mainly to find related terms that I would not have thought of... I don't really judge volume or estimated clicks because I don't care...

it comes down to... you either want the term or you don't. if you want the term... you're going to be going after anyway regardless of other factors... I mean the numbers that Google gives you doesn't change that you want to rank for the term or not.

I don't understand how you would compare the number of local searches for your keyword with the number of visitors who followed your listing in search results and ended up on your site.

I've found in the past that Google Keyword tool is not all that accurate, I create exact match domains based on a keyword I research in Google's tool.. Do the on-site seo, generate backlinks, and if I reach position #1 I often get more traffic from 1 keyword than Google says exists for that keyword... Strange.

I've used a free piece of software called traffic travis (maybe one word?) with more accurate results, it has all the fields Google Keyword tool does and a few more
