Google Keyword Search accurate?

Guys i just had a look at the dating keyword on Google and noticed it gets a hell of lot of searches every month. What i did not understand however was that on the first page when you search for 'dating', one of the websites displayed 3 from the top is dating.co.uk.

Now naturally i would think dam that site must be getting some nice organic traffic, i checked the traffic ratings for the website on alexa and it seem its worse then one of my white hat sites which doesn't get search impressions nearly as much as the volume that i reckon dating.co.uk does.

Can someone please explain why the website doesn't get traffic when ranking for such a highly searched term?

There are several assumptions in your post worth challenging...
    1. Alexa is accurate for non US sites
    2. Searches/month for a keyword always results in visitors
    3. People outside the UK will visit a .co.uk dating site
    4. Dating as a keyword is relevant outside the US
    5. Dating is used only to refer to dating websites. A high percentage of people may be looking for something else (e.g. tips, advice, help)

It's also worth noting that Google massages the data it reports.

Also, alexa only records traffic from people who have the alexa toolbar installed.

It may just be that less people who visit that other site dont have this toolbar installed, which is likely as only certain types of people would know or care what alexa toolbar does, such is IM people.

Ok so is the Google Keyword tool accurate or not? Otherwise is there any other alternatives? So many people have said that they are ranked #1 for there keyword but the amount of searches that Google Keyword tool reported is nowhere near the traffic that they would be getting?

I would say it's not accurate. According to my experience (number one for keywords with millions of searches) they list a much higher number than actual

It's as accurate as any tool based on past history is likely to be; if used properly it gives a general indication, but it makes no guarantees; and Alexa is no indication of traffic.
