Google Keyword planner gives exact or broad searches?

Discussion in 'Keywords' started by softech02, Dec 11, 2013.

I had been using Google keyword tool and it was a great tool before it converted into Keyword planner. Is there any idea whether it gives exact match keyword or broad when we search for any keyword?

I know when we need to get suggestion by uploading a file containing many keywords, there is an option to chose exact or broad match but not sure whether its broad or exact match when we search for a single keyword.

    Any suggestion?

Hi, you can use "keyword" for phrase match, and [keyword] for exact match.

    That's it.

What do you mean. Do you know what keyword planner is? Or just passing time here?

I hate planner. They never should have changed it. I can't find the exact match myself.

Of course I know what keyword planner is, GKW was way better. As I said, just type [yourkeyword] in search area, and you will get exact match.

    "New York hotels" = 60,500
    [New York hotels] = 60,500
Can anybody explain, why Avg. monthly searches coincide?

When you search for a single keyword, it is by default, exact match. It even says on one of the tooltips.

Exact match is default option when you search for keyword ideas. No need to select this option anywhere or put your keyword in brackets []. In fact, there is no option now to select phrase or broad.

You can, however, set a specific match type when adding keywords to your potential AdWords campaign. Unfortunately, this can help you you very little in determining organic traffic.

TIP: Always hover over the little graph icon next to every keyword to see it's search trend. If a keyword shows it has 22k monthly searches it does not necessarily mean it's 22k every month. It's just approximate number.
