Ok I have a site in this certian niche, this one keywords which a few sites are all fighting for I was ranking about 8-9 on page one, it was bringing me a easy 2000/uniques a day from this keywords alone, now today for no reason the sites been sandboxed I believe...Why does google do this?

The site has over 20k backlinks....

should I play the waiting game??? what are your thoughts on this?

Seems to me that Google is broken lately. I have SERPS that keep appearing and then disappearing from the index. One day I rank on the front page of Google for certain keywords. The next day those pages are not even in the index. Then a few days later they are back again - only to disappear yet again.

I am wondering if Google are working on an Algorithm that keeps the SERPS random between key sites - rather than fixed on the same ranking sites...

Google seems to be adjusting their formula a lot in the recent months. It does seem to go between discrete states - seems like they try something that leads to major changes, they turn it off and adjust it, and then turn it back on again.

Ditto that! This kept happening with our site as well, all throughout the previous 2 months. The site would simply disappear off the index, entirely and then reappear on page 1, back where it was. No idea what was causing it, but after a couple of times, we stopped having heart attacks

I bet that on the next update you will be on the page 1 again.
I have a friend who had the same problem...and yes... he played the waiting game a little :)

This is happening to one of my sites for the past 2 weeks. It litterally dissapeared from google, with the except of 1 key phrase. All other keywords are gone. MSN and Yahoo are still going strong.I'm playing the waiting game, and it seems like today some of them are coming back, but still not even close to what I had 2 weeks ago.

This happened to me before on a different site, and I waited it out just to come back stronger than before.

    Patience is a virtue :)

    Hello...

    Stop Stressing.. :p

The same thing happened to sleek directory about 2 weeks ago and now
is coming back with a vengeance and taking many top spots after a little
seo work and due to the NEW algo that was introduced just recently
( images and news ) as they are now part of the New algo equation. ;)

PS... I wasnt a happy camper either when it happened

    thx

Agreed, from what i have seen with the changes on some niche's they seem to be playing with the QDF or “query deserves freshness" scoring.

This is a common occurence with competitive keywords. You technically have not been removed from the index. My theory is it has something to do with a change being made, and having certain DC's synch up with that change. When mine would finally reappear, there was usually a new addition to the top 10, that was not in top 50 before... or a top 10 got dropped 50 pts or more. My position has never changed when it "reappears". Could be coincidence, but it's what I have experienced.

The first time this happened to me, I would run rank check on various tools on the net. They would always say I was in the spot I should be, even though I wasn't. The longest "wait" was 5 days.
