Here is Google's OLD advertising cookie privacy page from July 30 -

Here is Google's NEW advertising cookie privacy "Opt-Out" page -

    Here is Yahoo's Privacy "Opt-Out" Lead -

Since this applies so fundamentally to Google's business model, and involves using Google Search, I thought that this would be the best place to post it.

This applies to AdSense as well, since web surfers may now refuse to be "ad targeted" by their previous web behavior.
You must perform the "Opt-Out" in each browser that you use.

They seem to be tracking each other very well.

It means that Congress is currently working on some punitive legislation, about to be passed, for search engines intruding upon the privacy of individuals, primarily by the use of cookies (not chocolate chip). Yahoo was quick to the trigger, and was the first SE (I think) to go to the "Opt-Out" Model, to immediately implement the new privacy model - news here -

What was the delay before Google did the same? Minutes? Hours? They must have had it all ready to go, but got scooped.

Of course, the Electronic Frontier Foundation thinks that everything should be "Opt-In"

Currently, the presumption is that you get the Targeting whether you want it, or not. The law allows spamming, in a sense. Now, if you are able to find the "Opt-Out" button, you get back to the beginning "targeting-free" position that "Opt-In" would have given you in the first place.

With "Opt-In" policy, you don't have to do anything to avoid privacy intrusion. You MUST ASK to be included.
With "Opt-Out" policy, you MUST TAKE ACTION to avoid the privacy intrusion. The Wild West approach. Ain't no law in town, yet. Kinda like the "do-not-call" list. Limit the intrusion.

I guess that when you are about to be forced up against a wall, that old "Opt-Out" Option doesn't seem so bad after all, when faced with the alternative . . . "Opt-In". Then they'd all have to come a-courtin' us. Ha-ha.
