    Google goes CPA!

Affiliate marketers were buzzing back in June about Google's plans to launch a CPA network. Well it's official - it's launching and Google Adwords is starting the CPA Beta test phase.

Will this rock our world and change affiliate marketing as we know it?
I don't think so, but you'll see plenty of doom and gloomers saying it will.

Here's the corresponding Adsense announcement inviting Adsense publishers to join the beta and start pushing the new CPA ads.
Look out, Google is trying to take over our world."

It's the big news around alright.

Seems like its going to be very product driven, i would assume it will take a big chunk of the high paying cpc campaigns which will be moved into cpa model.

I think it will force other networks to provide something different...either more money, more transparency, better tools, different reporting, etc.

Maybe this will push LinkShare to finally update their horrible, out-of-date interface to retain its share of the market...

Although I don't use CPA campaigns from the CPA networks, I did once use a few about 2 years ago and they did convert well until the site stopped offering that campaign.

So I hope they offer some good CPA campaigns that pay very well for game related sites. That will go down very well.

Well it was inevitable that Google would roll out CPA model. As a merchant I for one welcome any CPA vehicle. It is a low risk customer acquisition technique that many merchants have been crying for. Previously with PPC the referrer has been the winner in the relationship, earning even when sending bad traffic.

CPA is passing the risk to the affiliate. Something not suited for most Adsense junkies. How many merchants will move the Adwords budget to CPA now?

I was expecting CPA to arrive with the Google payment service (Gbuy). This is a guaranteed way for Google to reliably track sales. Otherwise merchants can effectively rip off the affiliates by not declaring all the sales made.

Considering Google's traffic, the more choice of website monetization vehicles they offer the better.

Will be a CAOS for sites that don't have high traffic or sites that aren't in some certain niches.

I know many small good sites, very good sites, that are doing ok with cpc (well $100 for them is ok). Some of them tried cpa, and the results are horrible. People continue to click, but then they don’t convert. CPA only works in certain niches. One thing is a site about a niche for instance fishing, other thing is a site about buy fishing add-ons (where CPA could result). A site could be awesome, but if the niche is not the right one for actions (and remember that most of the actions is buy a product), cpa will totally fail. cpc, even in the most strange niche allways give some bucks.

Of course that this for big traffic sites is different, very different indeed, and with cpa, they can win much more money, has time passes.

Well, if the way Google handles PPC and ad serving is any indication, I believe their affiliate program will be extremely well done and a welcome addition to websites everywhere. I wonder how other affiliate sites are going to handle the (possibly large) migration of clients to the new network.
